An independent practice is privately owned and not part of a larger group. A group practice is one of several under the same owner, from a few sites to hundreds. The CMA found that around 60% of UK practices are now part of a larger group, and the five largest are IVC Evidensia, CVS, VetPartners, Medivet and Linnaeus. Many kept their original names after being acquired, so ownership is not always obvious.
